Fuel Cell Fundamentals

Session 1 will be led by Professor Scott Samuelsen, director of the National Fuel Cell Research Center, and Dr. Jack Brouwer, associate director of the National Fuel Cell Research Center

Fuel Cell Fundamentals

    Jack Brouwer
    Learn how fuel cells work. This session includes an overview of thermodynamics, fundamental and systems losses, system requirements, and the practical limitations of fuel cells.

Fuel Cell Types

    Scott Samuelsen
    Gain an understanding of the different types of fuel cells and their technical characteristics. This session addresses performance issues as well as some of the materials and integration issues specific to different fuel cell technologies.

Fuel Cell System Components

    Jack Brouwer
    Learn about the different components of fuel cells, including the fuel processor, the fuel cell stack, and the power conditioning equipment. The session will conclude with a discussion of the importance of “balance of plant” components and the integration of the various components into a single system.

Stationary Fuel Cells

    Find out about state-of-the-art fuel cell technologies for stationary power applications. This session includes information about typical commercial installations as well as an overview of current research and development activities.

    Take a look at fuel cells for vehicles: prototype designs, fuel cell vehicle programs, and demonstration projects taking place around the world.
