The two main types of hydrogen generation systems are electrolyzers (water + electricity = hydrogen + oxygen) and reformers (hydrocarbon + heat = hydrogen + carbon dioxide). Electrolyzers can use electricity from non-renewable sources (coal, oil, natural gas) or renewable sources (solar, biomass, biofuels). Reformers can use non-renewable (coal, oil, natural gas) or renewable sources (biomass, biofuel).
