Monetary Value of Fuel Cells

The National Fuel Cell Research Center has completed two major reports which, for the first time, monetize the value of large fuel cells (molten carbonate, solid oxide, and phosphoric acid, for example) and proton exchange membrane or PEM fuel cells. Conducted in response to questions from agencies and the marketplace, and finalized in collaboration with industry, the reports compare fuel cells to other distributed generation power technologies with regard to both criteria pollutants and greenhouse gases.

The principal conclusions of the studies are fuel cells provide significant value (1) through cogeneration, digester gas use, avoided central station generation, and associated avoided emissions, and (2) to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
