Steady State Analyses Tools

<empty>

Overview

Steady state analyses strategies and tools for inter- and intra-industry comparison of solid oxide and molten carbonate fuel cell systems and hybrid fuel cell gas turbine systems are being developed and applied at the NFCRC. These analysis strategies and tools are being developed and used to gain fundamental insight into high temperature fuel cell and fuel cell gas turbine hybrid system operation, to advance MCFC and SOFC hybrid technology, and facilitate the deployment of fuel cells for stationary power generation applications.

Objectives

The overall goal of this project is to develop steady state analysis strategies for fuel cell systems and cycles, which can become a bridge between development, commercialization and successful deployment of the fuel cell technology. The technical objectives required to meet this goal include:

  1. development of simulation tools,
  2. application to specific MCFC and SOFC systems and cycles,
  3. developing standardized analyses strategies, and
  4. public dissemination of the results through web-sites and publications.

The economic performance objectives include the acceleration to market of an environmentally sensitive power generation technology that could potentially reduce the cost of electricity, increase electricity availability and reliability at a cost lower than that required for full experimental advancement of hybrid fuel cell technology.
